Restoration of Krasnostav Jewish cemetery

Picture
Cemetery: June 2015
Krasnostav was a typical Jewish  shtetl located in Northwestern part of Ukraine. Jews started to settle over there in 17 century, and by beginning of 20 century Jewish population was about 1,200 people. The share of non-Jewish inhabitants was 45% of total population.
A small group of Tsal Kaplun descendants  visited the Krasnostav Jewish Cemetery in May 2015.  The place had been forgotten for many many  years, and it now looked like a grass field with no burial stones or even a fence.

So the members of Tsal Kaplun Foundation decided to restore the cemetery by hiring local residents. 90 of the burial stones were unearthed, but hundreds more are still buried underneath the field.
The Foundation needs more funds to continue this restoration work and to install a fence at the perimeter of the cemetery.
We have to honor names of the dead and keep memory of their past existence alive.
Your donation will tell the world that you care.  Yes, each Jewish cemetery is a collective monument to life and death of ancestors and a part of intertwined history of the country and the Jewish Diaspora.
The local residents clean up the cemetery
