The documentary films presented here cover several periods in the Jewish history of the Soviet Union:
the Holocaust, the exodus of 1975-1982, and the later search for identity and family roots. These stylistically different films give the viewer a realistic glimpse into the emotions and struggle of their respective times.
TKF collection of Memoirs "Being a Jew in USSR"
Memoirs as a genre of personal recollection shed light on the wide gap between official Soviet ideology, its application to the realities of Soviet life and behavioral patterns of Soviet bosses. Many of such books were self published in small quantities, and they are disappearing rapidly. Our goal is to save those valuable insights for future generations. Digitized books will be accessible online.
The main focus of this project is the search and retrieval of letters and original documents and artifacts related to Holocaust and Jewish participation in World War II.
Personal letters bringing to us dramatic circumstances in close-up mode, filled with authors’ emotion provide a unique and direct window into the past, they present a slice of history of that time. Learn more
